Transition Tavistock (TT) stands on the shoulders of the great work that the Transition Network has acheived over the last few years. The TT steering group have been laying the foundation for the future of this movement here in Tavistock. Only with a solid base can we deliver a sustainable future for Tavistock and the surrounding area.
The steering group has created a mission statement, constitution, financial arrangements and website. It has brought together the people in Tavistock who are aware of the need for change and it has created a platform for Working Groups to move forward and take action.
Transition Tavistock has had a stall at the farmers' market and has been present at local events to raise awareness of the organsation. We showed the film 'Age of Stupid' to a very full house at the Parish Rooms on 29th September; this was followed by a lively discussion of possible actions that could be taken locally to address the issues raised by the film. We are also part of the global transition network, the 243rd initiative to join up!
On 15th November we held a public discussion forum at the Parish Rooms. This marks the beginning of a more active phase in which we hope many more people will become involved in taking practical steps towards a more sustainable future in the Tavistock area. Interest groups have formed around the topics of Community, Communication, Energy, Food, Transport and Waste. Knowledge, contacts and ideas were shared during an inspiring afternoon, and this is just the beginning! If you would like more information about any of these groups, then please email us on transitiontavistock@googlemail.com
Recent TT Events have included: the screening of The Age of Stupid (Oct 2009); an Open Space discussion forum (Nov 2009); and the Annual General Meeting (Feb 2010)
