The Transition Movement is a strategy to meet the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change. This community based initiative aims to build local resilience and reduce the energy and resources we use.
Transition Tavistock has now been recognised as an 'official' transition initiative. The Steering Group has set the foundations to get the movement going in Tavistock and the surrounding area. Working Groups have now been formed to push ideas and projects forward.
MISSION STATEMENT
In response to decreasing oil supplies and global climate change TT seeks to bring the community together by sharing knowledge and practical ideas to use less energy and resources.
Our goal is to help build a strong and self supporting community for Tavistock and the surrounding area, seizing the opportunity to bring about a more sustainable and better future.
GENERAL
Through the development of working groups we want to provide a series of workshops. Possible workshop titles could include food production, cycle repair, clothes mending/making, to name but a few. More ideas welcome!
We are also looking to support the local community and businesses.
Transition Tavistock is a local "not for profit" organisation. Our steering group has set up a basic infrastructure (constitution, bank account and other necessaries) and we are now moving into a phase where working groups focusing on the themes of Community, Communication, Transport, Energy and Waste will move the agenda forward through practical actions.
