Tavy2Paris tree decorations and messages on labels – now until 24th November

See more about Tavy2Paris river ceremony below.
For Tavy2Paris tree in the Christmas Tree Festival (St Eustachius’ Church, 27th Nov to 6th Dec).

Inspired to create a tree ornament which evokes any of Tavistock / Rivers / Paris / climate change? Yes? Then please drop it into Here and Far (Tavistock’s fair trade craft shop, 2 Market St – next to Bookstop), by 24th November (and collect again after 7th Dec). Max size 3 inches / 8 cm.

Also on tree will be messages on luggage labels, with thoughts on why climate change matters. TACT hope to get enough of these to use on 28th Nov (see below) in a symbolic action of sending a message to world leaders.
So – could you find or make a tie on luggage label and put your message on it? (No need to give full name.) Drop it in either to Here and Far, or to Tavistock Methodist Church (external letter box in envelope marked Tavy2Paris) – again by 24th Nov.

This event is arranged by Tavistock churches as a chance for the whole community to show that climate change matters to Tavistock. Readers of this newsletter need no convincing of that – so please take 15 minutes out of the seasonal rush to show it. The idea is to stand in line (single file) on the riverside path each side of the Tavy, going downstream (ie west) from Abbey Bridge, to create a photo moment that can be shared via social media. The central feature will be a banner held from the historic bridge. Other elements still being developed, but it will be peaceful and non-political. The aim is to show a wide base of community support for tackling climate change, rather than to promote particular solutions. (So no model windmill this time – in fact no extra props, banners or campaign materials at all – just yourselves warmly and if possible colourfully dressed.) Obvious warning: keep safety in mind as the paths, though wide and mainly flat, are beside a fast river and may be slippery. Parents are responsible for children. No dogs except guide dogs.

More details are on www.tactnews.org.uk/whats-on/page8.
Please share widely with hashtag Tavy2Paris. If you could help on the day (eg stewarding, handing out the welcome leaflet), or help on the team sewing the banner, get in touch with Kit Harbottle (616658, prof@harbo.me.uk)
